I am originally from La Paz, Bolivia, where I lived until 2003 working in I.T. at Food for The Hungry Bolivia. In 2004 I moved to Vancouver to study theology at Regent College where I finished a MATS (Master in Theology and Arts). Just to earn a trip to Kenya I signed up to do a Doctor of Ministry at Carey Theological College where I researched on social isolation and spirituality.
During my time of studying theology in Vancouver I worked at a large faith based conference called Missions Fest Vancouver (Now Mission Central). For over fifteen years I helped to facilitate collaboration between faith based agencies, communities and individuals towards "unity for the sake of Mission". During Covid I became a chaplain, which allowed me to practically help to address social isolation and loneliness through spiritual care. For three and a half years I served among and with seniors at Baptist Housing.
In September of 2023 my family and I moved to Quesnel, in order to be closer to family and to afford a home. I volunteered in different places in Quesnel and noticed a great spirit, which I want celebrate through this blog. The phrase "... que encanto de gente", is the Spanish for something like: "...how charming.... this people". It is inspired in a famous Peruvian singer and composer from my childhood called Chabuca Granda, who used to say that phrase during an airline commercial. It stuck with me and represents the spirit of my appreciation for the kind of people I am getting to know in Quesnel.
I've had a chance to engage and serve the Quesnel community in different ways: through volunteering at church, at the BC Winter Games, at Dunroving and at our local hospice. I've also lectured on Spiritual Care for 3rd year UNBC nursing students, and facilitated a "Women in Medicina and Spirituality" discussion,
I am currently the Quesnel and District Hospice Palliative Care Association director with the mandate to make the road less lonely for those travelling the Hospice Pallative Care journey.
I welcome opporutnities to teach on Spiritual Care related topics, on grief, and on loneliness. I also welcome opportunities to preach and to faciliate discussions in different settings.
